When does Truvada start working?

Anal sex: protective after about 7 days of daily dosing.
Vaginal / front-hole sex: about 20 days — vaginal tissue takes longer to reach protective levels.

Do I really need blood tests on Truvada?

Yes — kidney function (eGFR) and HIV testing are done at baseline and roughly every 3–6 months, plus STI screening. It’s quick and it’s how small changes are caught early.

Is the bone-density loss permanent?

Usually not. It tends to plateau after the first year and often reverses after stopping TDF. Calcium, vitamin D and weight-bearing exercise help; if you’re at higher fracture risk, Descovy or Apretude spare the bones.

Can I take Truvada on-demand instead of daily?
